The Importance of Awe

This is a serious post about finding joy and contentment. I've taken a while to write because, despite my intentions, my efforts kept me busy and waiting for space. That space did not create itself.

Here is peace, if we allow it. Remember to breathe. A single deep breath in through the nose and out through the mouth, if you are willing and able, changes everything.

Awe is something we aspire to. We find awe in God, in Childbirth, in the Grand Canyon of Arizona, in the Pyramids of Giza, and in Survival through Calamity. We search for awe on vacation on a mountaintop or a gigantic vista.

WHY DO WE WAIT FOR A GIGANTIC EXPLOSION OF AWE BEFORE WE EXPERIENCE IT?

Awe can be found in everyday minutia. If you haven't found it today, perhaps you haven't stopped or slowed down. Ask yourself:
  • Am I present?
  • What's the rush?
  • What do I feel?
  • What do I see?

Explore what's nearby and really become curious about it for one minute without analyzing it. We don't need to wait for our next vacation to experience awe. Life and its feelings are not so overwhelming that we won't be helped by breathing and sensing awe in the world at our fingertips. It starts with a moment.

We simply need a bit of presence every day. The simplest human experience is strewn with bits of awe when we simply focus for a moment on what we feel, what we hear, and what we see, and become curious about that which we encounter.

You really don't need to wait until you work hard enough to earn a vacation before you experience awe.

♥ Don't wait. Life is precious and waits for no one. Joy and love are now.
