Resolving with Ourselves

I am conspiring with my mind to live abundantly and joyously. It's not just something I want - allow me to explain. If we want a thing, our mind wants it, too, but doesn't tell us how to get it or think that we should have it. It just agrees with us to be in a state of want.

That "grass is greener in their yard" mentality is an unhealthy state of mind for so many of us in the modern world. When we want, we are never satisfied with what we have.

So why this goal? Knowing why is the first step to tearing down a barrier. There may be several answers to the question, and when we really get specific with the reasons we want a thing, we can find that there are are layers of desire, layers of regret, layers of baggage that may be from beliefs that are not our own.

For example, we may have an instilled notion that money is the end goal, or a slim physique, or a big house or sporty car. Conversely, we may have a notion that these things are evil. When we question why we want something and continue to question, we find ourselves closer to our own beliefs versus those that have been instilled by judgment. Money is an exchange of value, and with it, we can secure more value for ourselves or upon those we care about. It is not a goal in itself, nor is it evil. A slim physique, a strong physique, any sort of physique is the one that allows us to function at our best and it's different for different body types, but the idea that we must match a certain type may be brought about by teasing in the past or by media stereotypes.

When we question our reason for a goal, we take away the layers and come closer to our core. We may want to be secure and happy - that's why we want money. We may want to be healthy in all ways - great sleep, great digestion, great endurance, peace and contentment, and that's really why we want to lose weight. Ultimately, it's not a certain car for prestige but one that is totally reliable, that doesn't break down and cause us to be late or feel unsafe on the highway. There is also nothing inherently evil in the desire to be safe and content.

So go ahead and renew that resolution. Now ask yourself why you are doing it. Chances are, it's not just because everyone else has it, or to be best, or to fit in those jeans, and your mind may not do what you hope to support you if you stop there. If you realize that you want to be healthy, content, pain-free, happy, that is close to your essence.

Take that core desire (safe, or pain-free, or happy) and visualize yourself just that way. Change the words - take away the "want".  Say, "Every day, I am happier and happier." Keep the vision of your ideal self in your mind. Your mind will conspire and hold you accountable to be exactly that way - no longer in a state of want, but in a state of becoming.
