Why does growth feel so bad when it starts out feeling so good?

Here’s what a rough growth period looks like: We look for personal growth and it feels good. Then, we release surface energy and it feels fantastic!

But then, all that pernicious stuck energy releases and it’s *overwhelming*.

Stuck energy is a BIG DEAL.

Even when we don’t know that as fact, we still feel the result. So at this point, we start to ponder and analyze. We label, blame, or question ourselves, our spouse, our doctor, the unorthodox method we’ve tried…. and that just makes us grumpy and defensive.

We want to find a way out of the ick as soon as we can, so chances are, we quit. We blame what we think went wrong, and it feels pretty self-righteous to indignantly do something about it.

Soon, we’ve nixed the growth and are frustrated and struggling. And it’s like a bulldozer rampaging around our body - we feel unwell and we’re embarrassed.

Is this your story, perhaps from a different perspective? It’s a huge shift to get rid of stuck energy! It takes perseverance. Yet if we don’t stick with it, it revisits us time and time again.

How do we make it easier?

Know that releasing stuck energy we didn’t even know was there is the hardest part. Also know that it passes.

When it happens, give yourself space and grace. Make amends for your pissy mood with yourself and your colleagues and friends. Chances are, they’ll get it and let it go, giving you the space you need.

Stick with the space! Don’t talk anymore about it because everything you may think is true is a reaction. Don’t talk about it, don’t post about it. Just know you’re working through a hard thing and you’re doing fantastic even if you feel you’ve been run over by a truck.

Feel the feelings in your body without pushing them away or justifying them. Feel the sensations with curiosity, not reaction. Just get out of the way.

As certain as Wednesday is Hump Day and will pass, this too shall pass. And when it does, celebrate!

You got this. And if you need support, I’m here.
